Over time, factors such as sun damage, genetics, diet, and repetitive muscle movement contribute to the formation of lines and wrinkles in the face. Additionally, the development of pigment irregularities or acne scars can cause skin to lose its smooth, youthful appearance. Skin resurfacing procedures all induce a controlled amount of injury to the skin. The healing that takes place produces tighter, smoother and less pigmented skin that results in overall rejuvenation of the skin. The amount of improvement is relative to the amount of injury inflicted. Unfortunately this is also true for the recovery time and the possibility of complications (fortunately rare). These techniques are often combined with other treatments.
Dermabrasion makes use of a mechanical ‘sander’. This works well for wrinkles around the mouth area. The recovery is not always pleasant, but it is usually completed within 10-14 days. Laser produces a very predictable and consistent degree of injury. The biggest disadvantage is the cost of laser machines, which is unfortunately passed on to the client. Chemical peels are one of the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures performed to rejuvenate the appearance of the skin. Often performed on the face, neck, and hands, various types of chemical peels can reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles, scars, and uneven pigmentation, as well as treat pre-cancerous skin lesions. Unfortunately peels affect wrinkles less than the other methods. It is however excellent for pigmentation. Peels are typically done in the rooms.

Cost
With over 6.6 million procedures performed in 2014, BOTOX® is the most popular minimally invasive cosmetic procedure performed. BOTOX® is the registered product name for Botulinum toxin, Type A, used to treat facial lines and wrinkles such as forehead lines, frown lines, crow's feet, and lines around the neck. In addition, botulinum toxin has been shown to be an effective method for treating other conditions, such as migraines, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms, among others. With little downtime and almost immediate results, BOTOX® can help to restore a smoother, more youthful appearance to the face. In order to maintain the effect, BOTOX® should be repeated every 4 to 6 months. Not only does it treat wrinkles and fine lines but it is also an excellent way of preventing the development of wrinkles and fine lines, in younger people.

Fillers
Overview
Recovery
Cost
Injectable fillers are one of the most popular facial rejuvenation techniques. As we age, the underlying tissues that keep our skin looking youthful and firm begin to break down due to the effects of gravity, sun exposure, diet, genetic factors, and years of facial muscle movement. Our face also tends to lose its fullness. Over time these factors contribute to the development of lines, wrinkles, and folds in the face. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in tissue. It is the most common temporary filler since it has a very good safety profile and generally gives instant results. It is used to fill both wrinkles and the ‘empty’ areas in our face. It can also be used to alter the shape of the nose, improve the look of one’s hands and to improve the lip area. Typically one needs to repeat the injection every 6 to 18 months to maintain the effect.

Fat Grafting
Overview
Recovery
Cost
Our own fat can be used as a filler. The area from which it is harvested is usually not altered significantly. Fat is unique as it is not foreign and after the initial recovery, it is permanent. Fat not only plumps up the skin but also has a rejuvenating effect on the skin. It is postulated that this happens due to the high concentration of stem cells found in fat. This procedure often has to be repeated, as some fat may initially not survive the transfer.
