Overview

Male breast reduction surgery is a surgical procedure to reduce enlarged male breasts, the condition called gynaecomastia, which is experienced by a high percentage of men and some teenage boys. The procedure, which involves removing excessive fat, breast tissue and skin.

Procedure

Incisions are made around the nipple or along a natural crease in order to remove breast tissue and excess skin, especially if there is stretched or sagging skin in the breast area. The scars will be quite inconspicuous.

Some gynaecomastia patients are treated using liposuction, especially since techniques have become less invasive. 

Anaesthetic

Usually conscious sedation as a day case in our procedure room. Alternatively in hospital.

Recovery

Moderately painful.

50% recovery  in 7 days.

80% recovery in 6 weeks.

99% recovery in 6 months

Risks

Generally a low risk of post operative infection, bleeding and swelling. Scarring will take time to settle.
