Ear surgery, also known as otoplasty, is a procedure to correct the size of the ears or to get prominent ears closer to the head/pinned back.
Prominent ear correction surgery is usually done from the age of 4 onwards.
Procedure
A small incision is made behind the ear. The ears are then folded to the correct position. Initially a bandage is worn for about 3-5 days. Wearing a light compression headband or buff for 4 weeks follows this.
Anaesthetic
Conscious sedation and local anaesthetic in our procedure room. General anaesthetic for younger patients in theatre.
Recovery
This is a minimally painful procedure.
80% recovery in 1 week
95% recovery in 6 weeks
Risks
Infection and bleeding can occur, but the risk is low.
