Dr van der Walt is an expert in the field of cleft lip and palate surgery. He is very involved with the Smile Foundation and travels all over South Africa assisting in Smile Weeks. He has attended numerous local and international cleft conferences.

If your baby is diagnosed/born with a cleft lip and/or palate you will usually be referred to Dr van der Walt while you are still pregnant by your gynaecologist or by your paediatrician when you baby is born.

Dr van der Walt will explain exactly what lies ahead in terms of surgery for your baby as he/she might need a single operation or multiple surgeries as they grow and develop.
