Breast Lift
Overview
The breasts undergo changes in response to factors such as genetics, the ageing process, pregnancy and breastfeeding, weight gain or loss, and hormonal fluctuations. Breasts that were once firm and shapely often begin to sag giving them a loose or heavy appearance. A mastopexy, commonly known as a breast lift, is a surgical procedure designed to raise and reshape the breasts while removing any excess skin. This results in firmer, shapelier breasts, which will improve body contours and give the breasts a more youthful appearance. Often, a mastopexy is combined with breast augmentation, which involves the use of implants to increase volume.
Procedure
There are multiple techniques available, depending on the degree of ptosis (breast sagging). Excess skin is removed from the breast and the breast is repositioned in a more suitable position. One will have a scar around the nipple or under the breast and around the nipple.
Anaesthetic
Usually conscious sedation as a day case in hospital or our procedure room. Alternatively under general anaesthetic in hospital as a day case.
Recovery
Moderately painful
50% recovery in 7 days
80% recovery in 6 weeks
99% recovery in 6 months
Risks
Generally a low risk of post operative infection, bleeding and swelling. One may experience minor imperfections and the breasts will sag if exposed to the original cause for initial sagging. Can affect breastfeeding. Scarring takes time to settle.
